Prospect Hill- Fredericksburg, VA

In December 1862, the town of Fredericksburg, Virginia became engulfed in a ferocious Civil War Battle between Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia and Ambrose Burnside's Army of the Potomac which lasted for four days. Both sides lost thousands of men.

According to the U.S. National Parks Service, there were about 4,000 Confederate casualties and 5,000 United States casualties (killed, wounded, and missing) on the Prospect Hill battlefield you see within and around these photos.
